1950s Ballgown Sewing Pattern – Boned Bodice & Draped Shoulders

This 1953 sewing pattern is for a full-skirted ballgown with a choice of two skirt lengths.

The fitted bodice is lightly boned for structure, with soft shoulder drapes gathered into the neckline. The full skirt can be made in either of the two lengths included with the pattern.

The gown can be made entirely in one fabric or with lace layered over an underlining, making the design suitable for an evening, prom or 1950s-style bridal gown.

Suggested fabrics include lace over taffeta and velveteen, as well as other fabrics with enough body to support the shape of the skirt and bodice.

The pattern is suitable for an advanced beginner upwards and includes instructions to help with construction.
