1948 Fair Isle Twin Set Knitting Pattern – Cardigan & Sweater Bust 34–36″

Price range: £3.99 through £5.99

A lovely 1948 Fair Isle twin set comprising a long-sleeved cardigan and short-sleeved sweater, both finished with a traditional patterned yoke. At the time you would have needed 7 clothing coupons to make this set, as clothes rationing was still in force in Britain.

The pattern is mainly written instructions, with a small chart to follow for the Fair Isle design across the yokes.

The original yarn used was Patons Fair Isle Fingering, a 4 ply fingering-weight yarn, worked on No. 10 (3.25mm) and No. 12 (2.75mm) needles in old UK sizes. You will also need a medium crochet hook for finishing.

Tension is 7½ stitches to 1 inch on No. 10 (3.25mm) needles.

To fit a 34–36 inch bust. The cardigan measures 20½ inches in length with 18½ inch sleeves. The sweater measures 19½ inches in length with 6 inch sleeves.
