This pretty 1940s tea dress is one of those designs that feels just as wearable today as it did when it was first published. The sweetheart neckline is softened with a gently gathered yoke, while the short sleeves are gathered at both the shoulder and cuff to create the flattering shape that defines so many dresses of the period.
The skirt is beautifully cut with centre front and back panels, while the side sections are gathered below the hip to give fullness and movement without adding unnecessary bulk. It’s a thoughtful design that creates an elegant silhouette and is enjoyable to sew.
Although the original pattern doesn’t recommend a fabric, it would suit light to medium-weight cotton, linen or viscose, depending on the look you want to achieve.
Designed to fit a 36-inch bust and 40-inch hips, the pattern also includes clear step-by-step instructions and helpful sewing tips to guide you through the construction.
