1940s Re-Knitted Yoked Sweater Pattern – Make Do and Mend Style, Bust 33-35

This corselet-waist jumper was created with thrift in mind during the 1940s rationing era,
when wool and clothing were in short supply. Unravelling an old jumper to reuse the yarn
was a practical way to save precious coupons, and this pattern even includes advice on
how to wash and rewind old wool before knitting.

The design uses three colours, making it ideal for using up leftover yarn. The corselet waist,
yoke, and sleeves are worked in ribbing, joined to the main stocking-stitch body with a
decorative stripe in a contrasting shade.

It’s knitted in 3-ply fingering yarn, requiring approximately 5 oz (142 g) of a light shade, 3 oz
(86 g) of a dark shade, and 1 oz (28 g) of a contrast colour for the bands. You’ll need a pair
of No. 12 and No. 10 needles, plus four double-pointed No. 12 needles for the yoke.

To fit a 33–35 inch bust.
Tension: 8 stitches to 1 inch in width and 10 rows to 1 inch in depth over stocking stitch.
