1940s Men’s Zip Front Knitted Jacket Knitting Pattern – 38–40″ Chest

Price range: £3.99 through £5.99

This 1940s men’s knitted jacket has a wonderfully easy-to-wear shape, with a full zip front, V-neck and long sleeves. A cable runs down each side of the front opening, while the rest is worked in a textured rib pattern that gives the jacket plenty of interest without looking too heavy.

Designed to fit a 38–40 in (96.5–101.5 cm) chest, the finished length is 24½ in (62 cm) with a 20 in (50.8 cm) sleeve seam. It is knitted in 17 oz (482 g) of double knitting yarn using 3.75 mm and 4 mm needles, and requires a 21 in (53 cm) zip. The tension is 5 stitches to 1 inch (2.5 cm) over the pattern.

Originally described as a sports wind-jacket, it has the feel of a modern knitted zip cardigan and would be just as wearable today with trousers or jeans.
