1940s Ladies’ Knitted Underwear Pattern | Vest and Knickers

A practical knitted vest and knickers set from the late 1940s or early 1950s, designed for warmth, comfort and everyday wear. The deep ribbed fabric provides a close yet flexible fit, making these garments ideal as thermal underwear during the colder months.

The vest is designed to fit a 34-inch bust and measures approximately 25 inches in length. The matching knickers are made to stretch comfortably to fit 38-inch hips.

The original pattern is worked in 2-ply yarn using 4.00 mm and 2.75 mm knitting needles. If you prefer, a modern 3-ply or fine 4-ply yarn may also be suitable, provided the correct tension is achieved. The original tension is 5½ stitches per inch over the rib pattern when stretched.
