1940s Fair Isle V-Neck Cardigan Vintage Knitting Pattern – To Fit 36–38 Inch Bust

This rare 1940s Fair Isle cardigan pattern is a wonderful example of vintage style, created
in a slightly larger size than was typical for the era. The classic V-neck design is worked in
a natural base shade with traditional Fair Isle motifs in green, white, red, yellow, nut
brown, and blue, a beautifully balanced and authentic colour combination.

The original version was knitted in Sirdar Super Shetland Wool, 3 ply, using approximately
5 ounces of the main natural shade, with ½ ounce each of green, white, and red; ¾ ounce
of yellow; 1¼ ounces of nut brown; and 2½ ounces of blue. A pair each of No. 12 (2.75 mm),
No. 10 (3.25 mm), and No. 9 (3.75 mm) needles is required.

Tension is 8 stitches to 1 inch and 25 rows to 3 inches on No. 9 needles. The finished cardigan
is designed to fit a 36–38 inch bust.
