A neat 1940s Fair Isle cardigan worked in traditional Shetland 3 ply, combining a clean,
mostly plain body with classic colour work at the lower edges and sleeve cuffs. The
pattern reflects the understated style of the period, with just enough Fair Isle detail to
give it character without overwhelming the design.
The finished garment measures 36 inches around the underarm, with a length of 18
inches from the top of the shoulder and sleeve seams measuring 17.5 inches, creating
a neat, fitted vintage silhouette.
To make this cardigan you will need 6oz (180g) of a light main shade, along with 1oz
(30g) each of medium and dark contrast colours for the Fair Isle sections. A pair each
of No. 9 and No. 10 needles are required, along with 6 buttons to complete the front
fastening.
