A well-designed piece of knitted underwear combines practicality with thoughtful details, and these 1940s camiknickers are no exception. The all-over textured stitch pattern is complemented by a deep ribbed waist for a comfortable fit, while the buttoned gusset reflects the practical approach to everyday knitwear of the period. Narrow ribbon shoulder straps complete the design.
The original pattern is knitted in 2-ply yarn and features a fitted silhouette with a finely textured fabric throughout.
The finished garment is designed to fit a 34–36 inch bust, with a finished length of 22 inches measured from the top of the shoulder.
The original materials call for approximately 4 oz (114 g) of Patons Beehive Fingering 2-ply, a pair of old UK No. 11 (3 mm) and No. 12 (2.75 mm) knitting needles, a crochet hook for the finishing, 9 buttons, and ribbon for the shoulder straps.
Tension: 6 stitches to 1 inch.
