1940s Brushed Wool Cape & Bolero Knitting Pattern – Fluffy Cropped Knitwear

Price range: £3.99 through £5.99

Two lovely 1940s designs for creating the soft, fluffy brushed-knit look that was so popular during the period. The pattern includes both a shoulder cape and a short bolero, each of which can be knitted using two strands of 4 ply held together or a suitable DK weight yarn.

The cape is worked in simple garter stitch and measures approximately 17 inches (43cm) from the back neck to the lower edge. Once knitted, the fabric is brushed to produce the soft fluffy finish shown in the original design. Alternatively, a modern DK mohair or similar fluffy yarn could be used to create the effect without brushing.

For the cape you will need approximately 11 oz (312g) of yarn and a pair of UK No. 7 (4.5mm) knitting needles.

The bolero is worked in stocking stitch and uses the same brushed finish. It is designed to fit a 34 inch (86cm) bust and requires approximately 10 oz (284g) of yarn. The original instructions specify UK No. 6 knitting needles.
