This is a lovely, simple 1940s sweater with that unmistakable period shape. It’s worked in two
contrasting shades of bouclé yarn, with a neat black garter stitch stripe running across the
bust and sleeves to break up the colour. The design buttons at both shoulders and includes
shoulder pads, giving it that structured, iconic 1940s silhouette.
The original pattern calls for Patons Super Bouclé, which is now discontinued, so you’ll need
to choose a modern bouclé-style yarn with a similar texture and weight. You’ll need around
10 oz (approximately 300g) of yarn, in a 3/4 ply equivalent. The pattern uses a pair of 3.25 mm
(UK No. 10) and 2.75 mm (UK No. 12) needles.
Tension is 7 stitches to one inch.
The finished sweater is designed to fit a 34–36 inch bust, with a length of 20 inches from the
top of the shoulder and a sleeve seam measuring 5 inches.
