This smart 1940s twinset features a striped short-sleeve sweater paired with a plain cardigan,
finished with neatly matched colour bands at the hem and cuffs for a coordinated look. It’s a
practical yet stylish set that reflects the clean lines and thoughtful detailing of the period.
The pattern is worked in Paton’s Super or Beehive Scotch fingering 3-ply, using grey as the
base shade, with stripes in pale blue, dark green, light green, rose, and a very fine black
accent. It’s knitted on No. 9 and No. 11 needles (old UK sizes), giving a crisp fabric with
good definition.
The tension is 6 stitches and 8 rows to the inch. Finished measurements fit a 34–36 inch
bust, with both pieces measuring 18 inches in length. The cardigan sleeve seam is 18
inches, while the sweater sleeve seam measures 6½ inches.
