1938 Lace Panel Jumper Knitting Pattern – Short or Long Sleeves – Bust 34–35

Price range: £3.99 through £5.99

Another lovely jumper from 1938, with a decorative lace-style panel worked down the front and back and continued onto the sleeves. The rest of the jumper is worked in simple garter stitch, giving a nice contrast to the patterned sections.

The pattern includes instructions for both short and long sleeves, so you can make either version depending on how you want to wear it.

The original yarn was Sirdar Super Shetland Wool 2 ply. The short-sleeved version requires 4 oz (approximately 115g), while the long-sleeved version requires 5 oz (approximately 142g).

For the short-sleeved version you will need old UK No. 10 (3.25mm) and No. 12 (2.75mm) needles. The long-sleeved version also uses old UK No. 11 (3mm) needles.

The original tension is 8 stitches to 1 inch in garter stitch using old UK No. 10 (3.25mm) needles.

From the proportions given in the pattern, I would estimate this jumper to fit approximately a 34–35 inch bust. As with all vintage knitting patterns, checking the stated tension and finished measurements before starting is recommended.
