n unusual jumper from 1933, with a lovely textured finish created by alternating thick and thin knitting needles. The main body is worked in stocking stitch, while the contrasting rust-coloured stripes, close-fitting cuffs and turn-down collar are worked in a fancy garter stitch.
The circular yoke is another interesting feature, worked on double-pointed needles in much the same way as knitting a sock. The softly puffed sleeves and fitted waist give the jumper its distinctive early 1930s shape.
The original yarn was Viyella lace weight, requiring 3 oz (86g) of the main shade and 1 oz (29g) of a contrasting colour. You will need three 8mm (old UK No. 0) double-pointed needles and a set of four 2.75mm (old UK No. 12) double-pointed needles.
Size: To fit a 34-inch bust.
Tension: 7 stitches to 1 inch and 12 rows to 2 inches.
An interesting project for knitters who enjoy exploring the unusual stitches and construction methods found in early vintage patterns.
