1930s Tailored Crochet Dress Pattern with Zip Front

Price range: £3.99 through £5.99

A smart but casual crochet dress from the late 1930s, with a lovely tailored look. It features a decorative front zip, high-set pockets and a wide contrasting belt that draws in the waist.

For an extra bit of character, little pom-poms can be added to the zip pull. It’s a practical, easy-to-wear style that would look just as good today, and the contrasting details give plenty of scope for choosing your own colours.

The original yarn used was Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen, a 4-ply mercerised cotton, according to Ravelry. You will need 16 balls of the main colour and 2 balls of the contrast colour. As vintage Knit-Cro-Sheen was produced in 175, 200 and 250-yard balls, it’s worth checking the yardage carefully when choosing a modern substitute.

Crochet Hook: No. 8 (4mm), as specified in the original pattern.

Measurements: Bust 36 inches (91cm), Waist 29 inches (74cm).
