A cheerful striped jumper from the 1930s, with a simple V-neck and a lovely mix of colours. It’s knitted mainly in stocking stitch, with two rows of garter stitch separating the coloured stripes. The deep ribbed waistband and cuffs give it a neat fit, while the V-neck is finished in double rib, worked on four needles.
A great everyday jumper to wear with trousers or a skirt, and an easy design to adapt to your own favourite colour combinations.
The original yarn used was 14 oz (397g) of Baldwin & Walker’s Ladyship Scotch Fingering 4-ply wool, comprising 4 oz of royal blue (or navy) and 2 oz each of green, beige, orange, red and yellow.
You’ll need a pair of old UK No. 9 (3.75mm) needles and a set of No. 12 (2.75mm) double-pointed needles for the V-neck.
Tension: 13 stitches and 20 rows to 2 inches in stocking stitch on No. 9 needles.
Measurements: 33 inches around below the sleeves, with some stretch to accommodate approximately a 34–35 inch bust.
