1950s Mohair Bolero Knitting Pattern – Cropped or Waist Length, Bust 34–38

This 1950s knitting pattern is for a simple three-quarter sleeve mohair bolero or cover-up, with a choice of cropped or waist-length versions.

Worked mainly in stocking stitch with ribbed borders, it’s a straightforward design that lets the texture of the mohair do most of the work.

The original yarn was Robin ‘Shaggy Darling’ Mohair and Wool, with Ny-lona Classic double knitting used for the borders. As these vintage yarns are no longer readily available, I recommend choosing a modern substitute by matching the stated tension rather than relying on the original yarn name or weight.

The mohair section is worked on old UK No. 5 (5.5 mm) needles at a tension of 4 stitches to one inch. Old UK No. 8 (4 mm) needles are also required.

Depending on size, approximately 8–10 oz (227–284 g) of mohair is required.

Three sizes are included, to fit bust measurements of 34, 36 and 38 inches.
