1940s WW2 Knitting Pattern for Panties & Bloomers – Vintage Service Underwear

This 1940s knitting pattern includes two classic styles of vintage underwear: a shorter, close-
fitting pair of panties and the longer, traditional knickers worn under both uniforms and
everyday clothing. The panties are worked in a pretty textured stitch with a firm, comfortable
waistband, while the knickers offer a little more coverage with that unmistakable wartime
silhouette.

For the panties, you’ll need approximately 4 oz of 3-ply yarn, along with 3mm and 2.25mm
needles, and ¾ yard of elastic for the waist. The finished size fits up to a 38 inch hip.

The knickers use around 5 oz of 3-ply yarn, with 3.25mm and 2.75mm needles, plus ¾ yard
of elastic. They’re designed to fit a 38–40 inch hip.

Both styles are practical, wearable, and full of vintage character, offering a unique glimpse
